With the news of incumbent Mayor Phil Goff retaining his position as Auckland’s king, Tamihere will have to console himself knowing that even if he did get in his big ideas never would have worked in a million years anyway.
During these next couple days he will have to pack away his cardboard models of new double decker harbour bridges and graph paper showing exactly how Auckland’s taxes wouldn’t be shared with other NZ towns that spend it all for no reason at all like Christchurch.
We will all remember his brave words, when confronted with Christchurch’s earthquakes he was quick to point out that Auckland suffers “tsunamis of immigration”.
Despite being the living embodiment of what the rest of New Zealand assumes an Aucklander thinks and acts like, he was rejected by the very city he has cited as being “the senior city of the country, the dominant city in the country.”
He got dominated.
Please keep him in your heart during these hard times.
